School Life - Strong Foundations

Foundation Day for Cobram Anglican Grammar School marks the establishment of the School and of Anglican Education for the local Cobram community, and more broadly, for the residents of the Moira Shire. This year, Cobram Anglican Grammar School (Cobram AGS), formally known as Christ the King Anglican College, marked Foundation Day on November 29. It was a day of reflection and celebration for the school community.

Cobram Anglican Grammar School was founded in late November of 1999. In the Church calendar this period is known as ‘The Feast of Christ The King’. It is a Christian tradition observed immediately before the beginning of Advent. The school opened for students in January of 2000, and continues to honour this important convention by holding its Foundation Day at the same time each year.

Celebrations began with a Church Service conducted by the School Chaplain and Anglican Parish Priest, The Revd. Maryann Leonard along with the Cobram AGS School Captains for 2019, Chloe Turra, Mohammed Al Mousawy and Olivia O’Neill. The liturgy, or Church Service, was an opportunity for teachers, students and friends of the school to come together as one, and reflect on the goals and aspirations of the school. It was followed by an afternoon of ‘friendly’ house sports and other related commemorative activities.

Principal, Mr. Steve Gale, was very impressed with the way the students embraced this very special event in the school calendar. ‘Staff and students were very engaged in the official ceremony, and the afternoon’s activities were a pleasure to be involved in. Students gave their best efforts in all activities, and yet were extremely collegial and supportive of one another’.

‘We have a remarkable educational community at Cobram Anglican Grammar School’, he said, ‘where students can develop to be the individuals they wish to be, with support and encouragement from peers and staff members alike. Our aspiration as a school to pursue the concepts of ‘integrity, endeavour and community’ – our motto, were clearly on show today’.
