School Life - The end of an era

Cobram Anglican Grammar School recently celebrated the end of VCE for Year Twelve students with a Valedictory dinner. The Valedictory evening is a special event in the life of a school. It is a time for students to share with their families and friends, to reflect upon and celebrate the significant achievement of completing VCE studies. It is an opportunity for parents and teaching staff to reflect on the journey so far, and take time out to bear witness to the achievements of the students. The Valedictory celebrations provide an occasion for the school to formally wish well each of the graduates as they make their way into Tertiary studies, Technical and Further Education or opportunities in the workforce.

The evening was held on Wednesday November 28 and was well attended. Highlights included a celebratory Eucharist conducted by School Chaplain and Parish Priest, Rev. Maryann Leonard, words of encouragement from principal, Mr. Steve Gale, and a valedictory speech from Valedictorian, Brodie Walker.

Head of Senior School, Brad Downie, concluded the evening with a reflection. ‘Year Twelve is a challenging year, with stresses and anxiety never far from the surface. Year Twelve, however, is also filled with memories of the best of times. Each group of young adults, as they move towards the completion of studies, spends time reflecting on their time at school and all of the happy memories of the past years and, particularly, their final year. As is to be expected, there have been times when the group has been tested. Each of our students are to be congratulated how they have held themselves this year, looking after each other and finishing as a strong, supportive and resilient group. A group the school can be proud of. The school congratulates the 2018 class and wishes you well. We hope that your eyes are now firmly looking to the future, as they should be, as you move beyond Cobram Anglican Grammar School. But, we also hope that later in life, that you will look back at your time at our School and remember it with great fondness and happiness, knowing that you have left the School with a wonderful legacy. In all that you have done, this group have epitomised the values of our school motto, ‘Integrity, Endeavour, Community’. To the class of 2018, thank you and good luck’.
