School Life - Cobram AGS Presents Annie KIDS

Cobram Anglican Grammar School’s 2018 musical production was ‘Annie KIDS’, with performances on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th of October.

‘Annie KIDS’ tells the tale of Little orphan Annie who charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

More than 50 students were involved in the production, both on and offstage, with rehearsals running at lunchtimes in Terms 3 and 4 and over some weekends in the lead up to the performances. For many students this was their first experience performing in a musical of this nature, including Makayla Pestrucci who took on the lead role of Annie. All of the students performing onstage gained new skills in dance, movement, acting and singing and the final result was truly amazing to witness. Students involved in backstage roles included lighting operators and assistants for hair and make-up prior to each show. A number of staff and parent volunteers worked with director Jevon Scandrett to bring ‘Annie KIDS’ to life with the students.

A highlight of the show was Chase the dog who played the role of Sandy. Chase was assisted by local veterinarian and owner Talia Jacobs who worked with cast members involved in scenes with Sandy.

‘Annie KIDS’ proved to be a hit with the local community, with many audience members saying it was one of the best productions they had ever seen. The students were well rehearsed and incredibly enthusiastic which certainly resonated with those lucky enough to see the show.

Cobram Anglican Grammar School would like to thank Mr Jevon Scandrett for his tireless efforts in coordinating this production. A special mention also goes to the following; Cobram AGS Staff, Students and parents, Jill Petzke, Numurkah Singers, Kelsey Walker, Talia Jacobs and ‘Chase’ the dog, Trish and John Scandrett, Katherine Mantovani, Nic Fazio, Mentha’s of Cobram and St Joseph’s Primary School, Cobram.
